Biography

Past Recipients

Recognizing distinguished achievement in the application of science and art to the soil, this award honors engineering ways and means for improved manipulation, use and conservation of soil and water resources. The achievement resulted in applications of a new concept, product, art, or science that advanced the development of agriculture. The award is sponsored by the John Deere Foundation, Deere & Company, Moline, IL.

In 1837, John Deere forged a piece of saw blade into a plow-form, creating the world's first all-steel moldboard. One century later in 1937, his descendants established the John Deere award to recognize "Distinguished Achievement in the Application of Science and Art to the Soil."
